The competition for 3D-modeling at the International Science Games is about to end. Our journalists communicated with experts and participants to compile a useful guide on 3D, during whole contest. The teacher of the Resource Republican Center «Young Yakutians» Igor Ivanov answered the most important questions.
What is 3D Modeling?
3D Modeling is creating 3D models using computers with special programs. We draw various models on canvas using “Paint” program, this is a two-dimensional drawing.
Which programs are used to create 3D models?
Every program which is used to create 3D models has its own features. It is necessary to choose according to convenience. ZBrush, SketchUp, Compass, Inventor, Blender — this is just a small list, each software has its own peculiarities.
For example, it is more convenient to work with SketchUp, Inventor, Compass in technical modeling. The last two are powerful programs with advanced functionality, and SketchUp can be a great start for beginners. ZBrush and Blender are suitable for artistic modeling.
What can you create using 3D Modeling?
Anything you want! New interiors, drawings and models of future mechanisms are created, various damages in medicine are projected because of 3D Modeling. The gaming and movie industry heavily relies on the quality of the models made as well.
Where can I learn it? And how?
You should pay attention on courses and master-classes. It is necessary to completely immerse yourself in self-education, since this sphere only begins to develop and every day it expands its possibilities more and more.
What kind of equipment is required?
- Windows OS 7 or later
- Processor 64-bit Intel or AMD
- At least NVIDIA GeForce GTX 465 or higher or AMD Radeon HD 6670 and higher
- RAM at least 4 GB, but preferably 8 GB
- 6 GB of free hard disk space for installation
How 3D Print is improving?
Nowadays there are a lot of houses are being built by using 3D print technology. It appeared 3-4 years ago. Special cranes pour quickly hardening concrete over the layers. There is a house based on the “Games of Thrones” near Ekaterinburg which was made using this technology. There is a special program in China in which a full-scale construction of areas from homes using 3D-printing technology. It’s being built faster than usual and does not require the participation of a large number of people.
