Taiga
Dedicated to the memory of my faithful dog Taiga
This incredible story began on an ordinary autumn day. Sasha was returning home from school. He studied in the third grade, he was an inquisitive, kind boy. Sasha lived in a small village, which was surrounded by dense taiga. The inhabitants of the village were engaged in hunting, fishing, growing vegetables and raising livestock.
Fine rain drummed on dry, fallen leaves and trickled down into the ditches dug along the road. Suddenly, Sasha saw that someone was moving at the bottom of the ditch and heard a faint squeak. He carefully descended, bent down and saw a white fluffy lump lying in a pile of potato tops, which were dumped into the ditch after the harvest. It was a small puppy whose eyes were barely open. Sasha picked up the puppy, put it under his jacket and went home. He did not know how to tell his parents about his discovery. After all, Sasha’s father already had his own hunting dog Buran and it is unlikely that Sasha will be allowed to keep another dog.
Quietly climbing the porch, Sasha looked out the window. He saw his mother washing up. Dad was not at home. Then Sasha thought: “I’ll hide the puppy in the barn, and then I’ll wait for the right moment and tell my parents about it.” And so he did.
— Why did you stay at school? — Mom asked.
Sasha decided not to tell the truth yet.
— My friends and I played a little after school, — the boy said and looked at his mother. She seems to have believed him since she didn’t ask anything else.
Sasha waited for his mother to go to his room, poured milk into a saucer, took his old jacket and ran to the barn. He found a cardboard box and put his jacket in it. Here the puppy would sleep and he would not be cold. Then the boy took the puppy and brought his muzzle to the milk. The puppy began to blow bubbles through his nose and sneeze. He didn’t know how to lick yet. Sasha pulled a handkerchief out of his pocket, folded it, soaked it in milk, and gave it to the puppy. The puppy greedily swallowed the milk until it ran out. He ate, warmed himself in the boy’s arms and fell asleep. Sasha carefully put it in the box and went home.
In the evening, when dad came home from work and the whole family was sitting at the table, Sasha decided that the right moment came.
— Today I have a new friend, — Sasha announced, — I think you will like him very much.
The boy jumped up and ran outside. Excitedly, he entered the house and handed the little puppy to his parents. Sasha really wanted to be allowed to keep him. Dad picked up a fluffy ball, and mom sighed.
— It’s a girl, — dad said. — She is very small and seems to be ill. We cannot keep her because we have Buran.
— Please, dad, let me keep the puppy! I will take care of her myself and I will treat her! — Sasha asked tearfully.
— Allow your son, and I will help him treat the puppy, — said the mother.
To Sasha’s delight, his parents allowed him to keep the puppy. She was cured and given a beautiful name — Taiga. In autumn and winter, Taiga lived at home, since she was still small, and the winter in Yakutia is cold and harsh. All spring and summer, Sasha and Taiga ran into the forest, played and tended the cows.
One day, Sasha and Taiga, as usual, went for a walk in the forest. Summer was already coming to the end, and there were many berries and mushrooms in the forest. Sasha decided to pick up mushrooms and bring them home for dinner. While the boy was looking for mushrooms, the dog ran around him and barked at everything. She barked at a bird passing by, at a squirrel jumping through the branches or at a chipmunk peeking out from behind a tree. She was very fond of walking with Sasha in the forest because it was very interesting and fun there.
Taiga chased another squirrel and her barking began to fade away. The wind rustled the branches of the trees, the birds sang softly. Suddenly, the crunch of dry branches was heard. Sasha looked in the direction from which the noise was coming. Two dark figures appeared between the trees: one small and the other large. «Bears»: Sasha thought and froze in place with fear. He knew not to make loud noises when meeting a predator. And then, a big bear stopped and began to sniff. It was a mother-bear, it realized that there was a person nearby. The mother bear’s instinct told her that a person is a danger to her bear cub and therefore she rushed towards Sasha. The boy started to run. He ran without looking at the road, sharp spruce branches lashed him in the face, and his legs constantly stumbled on the roots of trees. Sasha heard branches breaking behind him, trees crunching, and even felt the bear’s hot breath on his back. The bear growled loudly and clattered her teeth, trying to bite Sasha. A loud barking of a dog was heard from behind. It was Taiga who heard Sasha’s screams and ran to him. She ran next to the mother-bear, biting her paws, but she did not pay any attention to the dog. The barking subsided, Sasha thought that the bear had injured or killed the dog. Sasha mentally said goodbye to life because he realized that he could not tear himself away from the bear, and Taiga could no longer help him. And then the roar behind him subsided and began to gradually move away. The bear rushed to the side and gradually disappeared among the trees. Sasha stopped, his heart pounding so hard that it was ready to jump out of his chest. In the distance, a dog barked and a bear cub roared. Sasha was glad that Taiga was alive. Slightly catching his breath, Sasha ran home. When the boy was already approaching the village, Taiga caught up with him. She was whole and unharmed.
His parents were waiting for him at home, they were worried that Sasha was gone for a long time.
— What’s happened? Why are you so excited? — Mom asked.
Sasha told what happened to him. He was very glad that the mother-bear suddenly stopped her pursuit, because otherwise he would not be standing here now and not talking about it.
From the expression on the faces of the parents, it became clear that they were very scared for him. They hugged their son, and the mother even cried.
— And I can guess why the bear ran away, — said dad.
— Why? — Sasha asked.
— We should all thank Taiga for this, — dad replied. — She distracted the bear by attacking the bear cub and making him scream. The bear realized that the cub was in danger and rushed to his aid. If Taiga hadn’t done it, the mother-bear would have caught up with you.
The boy hugged the dog, pressed it to him, and she faithfully looked into his eyes, licked his face and wagged her tail.

Heroes of Solaria
Once there lived a scientist Alvis in distant lands, in the Kingdom of Solaria, in a beautiful place with a favorable climate with a clear, full-flowing river Goldlia, with all the fish of the world. Solaria had many enemies because everyone wanted to own such territories, but the main Irreconcilable enemies were the inhabitants of the Dungeon, giant wizards who regularly attacked their lands. The Knights of Solaria have always given a worthy rebuff because the Kingdom was also famous for its brave knights. Everyone wanted to be them in such country, they were a role model for children and adults. Everyone respected and revered them.
Suddenly, one sunny day, the giants realized that the knights and all the inhabitants of Solaria received the power of the Sun. So, the giants began to build a plan to capture the source of the Kingdom’s power. For several months, the greatest magicians of the Dungeon were looking for a way and finally they succeeded: the strongest sorcerer, the ruler of the giants Hades, was able to use the charms thanks to which they managed to get the source of Solaria’s power.
The kingdom began to lose strength dramatically, it was weakening every day: some animals, plants were dying; the previously resource-rich river was drying up. And most importantly, people were losing their strength, especially the nobles and Royal nobility, those who were saturated with the energy of the Sun the most. The inhabitants of the Dungeon, noticing this, began to send damage to their lands.
The Solarium was in chaos, the residents were in despair because they did not understand why the Sun disappeared in the middle of the day. And why did they all lose their strength? About the fact that the source of their power is the Sun, only the royal nobility knew, due to the threat of spreading information. Salarit, the 163-year-old XII king of Solaria, was so ill that he could not get out of bed. The authorities, led by Salarit, gathered an army to attack the lands of the Dungeon and to return the Sun.
The scientist Alvis, who is listed in the ranks of the defenders of the Solarium, said: “I have identified a recipe for a potion to restore human strength, but there are only enough rare valuable ingredients for two. Many did not believe him, but he was a disciple of the sage, so the king decided to trust him. The strongest knight at that time, Alester, was chosen for the role of Alvis’ companion.
They went in search of the ingredients for the potion. The journey was long and difficult, they went through many dangerous places, faced various obstacles, but finally they found the necessary ingredients for the potion.
Alvis mixed the ingredients together and got a potion that he gave to Alester. The potion worked, and Knight Alester regained his strength.
In the course of the search, Alvis revealed a recipe for a potion to reduce growth; Alester suggested using it against giant sorcerers. They went on a long journey to collect the necessary ingredients for a potion. They left Solaria and went beyond its borders to explore all the lands and find suitable and rare ingredients. It’s been a long time, but finally, they came back with what they needed. Alvis, using all his knowledge, hammered the ingredients into the cauldron, and began to brew a potion. After a few hours, they saw that the potion was ready.
Taking it with them, they set off on a dangerous journey, passed through dense forests, crossed mountain ranges and reached the mountain, which was the portal between the Solarium and the Dungeon.
They went through a lot, were attacked by dangerous animals, fell into traps, but they did not give up. They overcame all obstacles until they finally reached the lands of the Dungeon, where the source of Solaria’s power was located.
Alvis and Alester studied the Dungeon territories for a long time and found out that the Iblis River flowed through these lands, into which they planned to pour a growth-reducing potion during the main feast of all the giants. It was supposed to take place in two weeks. They decided to wait for this moment, hiding in the enemy’s lands.
Meanwhile, despair reigned in the kingdom. The people of Solaria held on to the last hope, and within them there was a struggle with despair and faith in victory. Every day more and more inhabitants went over to the side of the Dungeon, obeying their defilements and promises of places in the new world where giant wizards would rule.
At last the day of the giants’ feast came. Alvis and Alester found a suitable place to observe and waited for their moment. The giants drank and ate, joyful and carefree. There was no trace of a lack of strength in their games and songs, but now the right moment has come. They released a growth-reducing potion into the Iblis River, which soon began to change its color. The giants started drinking from the river, not noticing the trick. But after a while, incredible things began to happen: they began to decrease in size. Some of them have shrunk so much that they have simply disappeared.
The battle was fierce, the knight and the scientist fought bravely, but they had to face a lot of giant wizards. In the end, thanks to their courage, patience and resourcefulness, they defeated the giants and went to the Giant lord Hades, to his castle. He knew that the Sun was the source of Solaria’s power, and he was unwilling to return it. Alvis and Alester understood that they had to defeat Hades to get the Sun back.
Soon Alvis and Alester found the entrance and entered the castle of Hades. There they found a large hall where magicians worked on the Sun. A column of light was visible coming from the stolen Sun, located on the altar at the other end of the hall. It was a magical light that resembled the brightness of a real Sun.
They cautiously approached the main hall where Hades was located.
The battle was fierce, they fought each for their own truth, each for their own interests. Despite the fact that Hades was incredibly strong, Alvis and Alester were persistent and experienced in battle. As a result, after a long battle, Alvis managed to use his potion to reduce Hades to a small size. He became so small that Alvester was able to enclose him in a bottle.
After that, Alvis and Alester returned the source of Solaria’s power to its place, the Sun lit up in the sky again.
When they returned to their homeland, Salarit, having met Alvis and Alester, thanked them for the risk they took to save the kingdom. Thanks to their courage, life in the Kingdom began to pulse again, the Goldlia River was filled with fish, the land was lush and green, and the Sun was shining brightly in the sky again. Alvis was awarded the title of Hero of the Kingdom, and Alester was inscribed in the history as one of the bravest knights in the history of Solaria. And it was thanks to them that Solaria flourished again, and the inhabitants of the kingdom regained their strength. And Hades was now kept in a bottle as a symbol of victory over evil. Since then, Alvis and Alester have become real heroes in the Kingdom of Solaria.
