Today on July 5 is the opening of the 11th International Research School as part of the YISG-2018. The event took place on the basis of the Sakha Junior Science Academy of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia). Delegations of about 20 countries and representatives of various regions of Russia participated in this event – 114 children in total. We have met some of the participants of the Games.
Nan Ceyariti, Thailand:
«Before the beginning of the YISG, I knew nothing about Yakutia. Back home, when people speak about Russia, they only mean Moscow or St-Petersburg, therefore I have read about this place in the Internet. As for me, I am participating in Chemistry».
Kirill Kunitsyn and Oleg Eremenko, Neryungri:
«We learned about YISG at Step into the Future Scientific Conference which was held in Yakutsk. We haven’t spent much time here yet, but we already like everything: the way everything is organized, how we were met. We participate in Robotics and Math».
Chan Owen, Hong Kong:
«My teachers told me about this program and offered to participate. We did not have strict selection at our school. Upon arrival, I have noted that this place, the territory of the Sakha Junior Science Academy, has a very calming and peaceful atmosphere. I am participating in Psychology».
Martin Stross, Slovenia:
«We were invited for participation by the Ministry of Education of Slovenia. I am participating in Environment and will explore the Lena River. I like everything and I hope that it is going to be fun».
Tara Nugi and Kiana Nushilar, Iran:
«We have learned about the Games at school, since our students have participated in International Research School nine times! After searching the Internet for enough information, we had decided and submitted our CVs, we were attracted by the experience of participation in competitions of the international level. We will participate in Robotics, and we find it very interesting».
Mr. Vasily K. PAVLOV, Rector of the Sakha Junior Science Academy, about upcoming Games:
— What role will YISG play for the development of Yakutia?
YISG are very important, because it is a long-term project. Firstly, we want our children to learn how to make friends and work with other children of the world. We live in an age of new technologies, developed civilizations, which requires great joint efforts to create new scientific and technological breakthroughs. We can’t make them without the participation of a large number of scientists, concentration of efforts and resources. We hope that children from Yakutia will also take an active part in this.
— In your opinion, what benefit will the participants take?
Participants will learn new skills in conducting research activities in a group, as well as communicational skills that would help them to understand people of different nationalities, with a different culture. This is a very important skill in the 21st century.
After the speech of the organizers, the Keskil ensemble astonished the participants with the sounds of the Yakut national instrument of khomus (jaw harp). During the raising of the flag, the musicians played the
anthem of the International Research School, which has been held for the eleventh time. In the end, everyone held hands and performed the traditional dance of Osuokhai.
