Eighth-grader of the International Arctic School Erchim Prokhonko takes participation in the section «Physics, Astronomy and Engineering sciences» Science fair. He told about his electric car project which will help save money for those who can’t afford to buy such a toy.
Tell me about your project, Erchim.
My project is an electric car based on a gyro scooter. We use a gyro scooter as an engine – the main part of the car moves with it. We collected the car from improvised means. For example, we used boards that were found at a construction site. We cleaned, sanded and painted them. As a result, the aggregate of this machine costs 1892 rubles plus a gyro scooter of 6000 rubles. And the same ready-made cars from the market are estimated at around 40,000 rubles.
How did you come up with such an idea?
In fact, it’s not my idea and I had no plans to participate in the Games. But my teacher said I had good potential in engineering and offered me this work. He kept this idea to himself for about a year and decided to implement it with me. That’s how I got here.
How long have you been creating your project?
It took about six months for ideas and drawings. But the assembly of the car lasted two months due to the fact that I flew with the class in St. Petersburg. If not for this, the assembly would have taken only thirty days.
How is your development useful?
I am the kind of person who had few toys as a child. And I literally lived playing with sticks. I think this project can help children whose parents can’t allow such a purchase. After all, a child often wants to ride on cars. And thanks to our development children will be able to make such a design with the help of his grandfather or father. And after that, he can drive as much as he wants.
Do you think your idea will in demand in the future?
I don’t see this particular model in the future in any way because development will move and there will already be other materials. The project itself will remain the same but the development, drawings and materials can change.
How confident are you in your project?
I am 100 percent confident in myself but there are doubts about the project. In fact, the idea itself looks tempting, several people have already approached me and asked about it. I think he just looks interesting but it seems to me that this project will not have a great future if you don’t work hard on it.
Do you feel the difference between yesterday and today? And why do you think?
The difference is enormous. Yesterday everyone was excited and today everything is calm without excitement. I think this stage will be easier. After all, it’s easier when you stand face to face with a person than to tell in front of a large crowd of people. But I am quite a confident person, so the last tour was not a big test for me.
