Starting from July 2, at the Junior Academy of Sciences of the Republic Sakha (Yakutia), the participants of the International Research School started preparing their projects. The presentation of the works is planned to be held on July 8. In total, there are 11 directions in which the guys have teamed up together and are preparing for defense.
During the International Intellectual Games, children make daily trips in groups to various interesting places of Yakutia. They travel in order to study objects that are useful for current projects, as well as for the purpose of training and individual education. According to Alexander Leontovich, one of the founders of IRS, the school tries to apply a special method of assimilation of material by children, while going beyond traditional education.
As part of the preparation of projects, Ksenia Salnikova, the general director of IRS and one of the experts, told us about how the protection of projects will take place approximately:
«Our main task is not to identify the winner or the best project, but the interaction between children from different countries and cities. They share their experience and knowledge with each other. Tutors and experts can join this interaction. Whatever it is, there is always feedback from them with children».
Participants from three different directions shared with us information about their projects and whether they are worried about them before the presentation.
Vasilisa Shuba, 16 years old, participant of the direction «How fat are our favorite snacks: comparative study»: «We study the harm in our favorite snacks, compare how much fat is written in the composition and how much is actually contained. For example, in the first experiment with chips, everything coincided, so they can really be considered good in quality. This is actually very interesting, since not all schools have such equipment that would allow us to conduct similar experiments. In addition, I study in a chemistry class. I’m not particularly afraid about the presentation of projects, because it’s fascinating on the contrary».
Mikhail Teplov, 15 years old, participant of the direction «Global climate change, drones and artificial intelligence»: «Our project is related to global climate change on Earth. We carry out various observations, look at the temperature rise in various parts of the planet and cities. Our team has already made sensors that we will launch and use to measure temperatures in various places during classes: on the river, in the forest and in the city. The objectives of the project are precisely these sensors, as well as a strategy to make cold places more accessible to people. I am not worried about the protection of works, because it will be interesting on the contrary».
Oleg Frolov, 17 years old, participant of the direction «Universal fairy tale: does it exist?»: «Our project was created at the intersection of literature, sociology, ethnography and psychology. We analyze fairy tales and world mythology of different times using the method of structuralism. It has been used and developed by scientists from various fields: from linguistics to biology. I’m not worried about the presentation at all, because it’s not the most extensive and large-scale study, but despite this, it’s very interesting. Moreover, I have already presented my other projects».
As you can see, the activities of the directions differ significantly, but despite this, they are united by solving a common task of developing life in Russia and even in the whole world. In the future, the projects will help make a huge contribution to our future.
