The International Olympiad «Tuymada» is held not for the first time. This year, most of the participants from other countries – Romania, Kazakhstan, Iran and Indonesia and so on, worked online. What difficulties did the participants met?
Parham Moshashaei, a participant in the Mathematics Olympiad from Iran, a 12th grade student of the Sharif University of Technology, shared thoughts of participation in the correspondence format. «Partaking in any online competition has its own difficulties, for example, instability in internet connection, noisy environment and so on. However, due to the pandemic, we were forced to adopt taking part in different competitions online, and it has become partially normal», – he said.
Another participant from Iran, Ali Nazarboland, noted the technical inconveniences of remote participation. «Well it’s good, in general. Not better than the in person exams, of course. It has the profit that you’re in the place you’re better with, – commented Ali Nazarboland. – On the other hand, some stricnesses are unnecessary in my opinion. For example, webcam from two different directions or screen sharing since these actions require powerfull batteries. Both of my devices were burning after the yesterday’s exam! But, as I mentioned before, it’s good to be somewhere that’s easier for you and you’re familiar with».
Reference: It should be noted, that only 386 schoolchildren from Russia and other countries of the world took part in the Olympiad. Of these, 309 children – correspondence, 77 – in person.
